Why create ''Fragrance of the First Flower'' ?

Growing up in a traditional Chinese society, many closeted students were forced to suppress natural desires for classmates of the same sex. Many of these youths internalized their homophobia and coaxed themselves into societal and familial expectations of a heterosexual marriage. In "Fragrance of the First Flower," we explore how broader societal acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community and for same-sex relationships rekindles possibilities for forsaken romance.
